The Best Learning Strategy? Switching Strategies.

Apr 10, 2025

Ever notice how people get obsessed with the one perfect learning method?
Mindmaps. Spaced repetition. Highlighting. Notion. Flashcards. Active recall. The list goes on.

But here’s the truth:
The best learning strategy is to use different learning strategies.

Learning thrives on contrast.

Sometimes your brain wants a mindmap, visually connecting ideas across a canvas.
Other times, it needs the quiet focus of a book, read on a park bench with the wind nudging your thoughts around.
Maybe today it’s jotting messy ideas on a scrap of paper,
Tomorrow it’s tuning into how a lecturer's voice changes when they hit something important.
Sometimes, you just have to start, even if you have no plan.
And sometimes, you need to watch a documentary and fall in love with the subject again.

This kind of variety isn’t random—it’s how your brain stays engaged.

Rigid routines might look productive on the outside,
but it’s the mental flexibility that makes you a true learner.

So don’t ask: What’s the best way to learn?
Ask: What way works best for me—right now?
And then switch it up.
